Dam, Winding Roads and Vlog

Tuesday 15th April 2025

Today we were up very early to leave for our farm sit in Jindera, NSW.

The girls, now 3 and 6, stayed at Babcia and Dziadios last night, giving us time to pack.

We left home at 7am and picked up the girls on the way through. It was overcast and drizzling which allowed for the formation of the most amazing rainbow. It shone brightly over the clearing as we wound through Braidwood Road heading westward.

After about 60min of driving the girls were already starting to get ansy in the backseat and so we decided to play a game of spot the animal. We created a list of 6 animals and we had to tick them off the list. We managed to get 5/6 before the game ran its course. We ticked off; horse, cow, sheep, bird, goat and unfortunately didn’t spot a kangaroo. On the upside we added alpaca, pigs and donkey to the list as we passed by them.

We were in and out of reception causing the girls significant distress regarding their iPads. About 1.5 hours in and Madeline decided to start her own Vlog (Video Blog.) By the time we rounded into Jindera the YouTube channel had a name, Maddie’s Wild Discoveries and Maddie has managed to video at least an hour of footage.

Any who, I digress. After 2.5 hours of travel we pulled into the Information Centre parking lot at Yass. After a much needed pit stop, we decided to get some information about the Yass River walk, so we could go and stretch our legs for a bit.

Yass Town Trail

We parked on the corner of Church and Warrambalulah street and walked North East toward the Dam.

Yass Town Trail

The River and surrounding environments support many fish, birds, marsupials, reptiles, amphibians, insects and plants. On the Yass Town Trail Walk, we took the time to read the interpretive signs along the trails, and found out more about the natural, cultural and historic heritage of the Yass River.

We managed to see some small bait fish as we walked along a small rock outcrop along the mid portion of the river.

We walked along the river and crossed at a causeway. This was the perfect time to educate Madeline about the difference between a causeway and a bridge.

We continued up the track looking at the different plants, reeds and trees growing. We saw a big tree with large banana like seed pods and stopped to show the girls the seeds inside.

We walked up the pathway as the gorge below us got wider and deeper. The walk was about 1.2km one way and the girls did very well walking.

Yass River Gorge

At the top of Hovell street we saw the dam wall. A little more education for Madeline about the dam itself and the difference between a dam and a weir.

Yass River Dam

We walked back to the car with two very tired and thirsty girls. We grabbed lunch to have on the go and set off for the remainder of the trip south to Jindera.

We arrived at the farm house at 230pm and met with the owners. We were orientated to the property, the horses, dog, chickens, alpacas and the veggie garden. We then had a tour of the farm house.

After orientation we left for our accomodation in Albury for the night. After unpacking we walked over to enjoy a dinner at the Albion Hotel. B

We retired to our room at the Commodore Motor Inn for the night.

Tomorrow

We head off to stay at the farm for a week or fun and adventures.
