Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Cold Snap

Wednesday 9th June 2021

We woke up to a chilly start to the day with temp of 13 degrees with a feels -like wind chill of 6 degrees.

This morning as we were packing up, a large horse float pulled up and the stockman driving unloaded 4 beautiful horses. It was a quick pee break for the horses. Madeline’s first Daddy went over to say hi.

Horse float

We left for Julia Creek at around 830 this morning.

Matilda Hwy heading to Cloncurry

We stopped at Cloncurry to pick up a few essentials from the supermarket.

We filled up fuel at Cloncurry at a more reasonable price. Our fuel consumption has risen in the last 3 weeks. We are booked for a service next week to ensure the spark plugs, filters and air intake are all good.

Cloncurry History

We surpassed 10,000km this trip during our 20th week on the road.

We played at the playground in Cloncurry for a little while, but dressed warmly, it was still really cold.

We started our trip east to Julia Creek. The road was rough and very uneven. The scenery was very sparse trees and Savannah land grassland.

We arrived at the RV Park in Julia Creek at around 1230pm.

We parked our car and had lunch. Afterwards we went for a walk around the RV park.

We did some arts and crafts this afternoon.

We relaxed and played for the afternoon, awaiting another long drive tomorrow.

Tonight the cold front heading from the south hits us. It is set to hit 4 degrees here overnight. The diesel heater is primed and ready.

Tomorrow

We travel to Winton over 278km. We are in Winton for 3 nights.
