Sunday 20th March 2021
We woke just before sunrise to leave Coober Pedy. We were well slept and ready to go.
On our travels we saw a few Emus, loads of reptiles on the roads and undulating bare hills.

We drove past Lake Hart. It is a smaller lake in the Lake Eyre basin- a drainage basin that covers just under 1/6 of all Australia and is one of the largest in the world covering around 1.2 million square kilometers.

We arrived at Glendambo and decided to drive 100km further to get us closer to Port Augusta.
Glendambo was recently hit hard with rain and this was the site where the Stuart Highway was flooded, the road was washed out and the road trains and trains were unable to bring supplies to the NT.

We drove on to Pimba arriving around 330pm and stopped at the rest area for the night. It was 39 outside but a breeze meant it was 3 degrees cooler. The van was warm but we made it through dinner
We had a movie night with Madeline, watching ‘Inside Out’ as we waited for the sun to set for sleep.
After a very long drive we all got off to sleep.
Overnight, while feeding Charlotte, Eva spotted ants. Black ants everywhere, yet again. Ants are a never ending issue in caravans, particularly when moving around. Parking on a nest is inevitable every now and then. We have ant baits on the walls permanently, changed every 3 months, but it takes 24 hours before it solves the problem (kills the queen and nest). Until then you live with ants everywhere!!!
Pimba
Pimba, means Pine Tree, which is ironic as it is situated on the most treeless plain ever.
Established as a workers camp in 1914, for workers constructing the Transcontinental railways line to WA.
Woomera is the adjacent town and at the time was a closed government controlled town. Pimba became the main place of stay for travellers and workers.
On first April 1947 the Woomera rocket range was established, for testing of long range weapons. The range covers 122,000 square kilometres and continues to be used to evaluate military missiles and aerospace systems for both Australia and worldwide.
Tomorrow
We leave for Port Augusta for 1 night. We need to do some groceries, buy formula, pharmacy and post office.
