Tumut trip October 2020

Our little Trio set off on another adventure on Friday 9th October. We were heading to Tumut with our caravan for an extended weekend away

Goulburn, NSW

We drove from home to Goulburn with a well behaved 2 year old daughter watch Twirlywoos (what is this show about anyway?) On the iPad. It took us 2hrs and 40min towing our Road Owl against a pretty strong head wind.

We stopped in Goulburn to stretch our legs. The Visitors information centre in Goulburn had a very rigorous COVID sign in, just so I could go pee. There was no hot water facility available to get hot water for the toddlers milk bottle, so we had to fire up the gas in the van to boil hot water.

We walked across the road to Belmore park and Madeline had some fun at the park. We grabbed some coffee at Goulburn Soldiers club which was of good quality.

Yass, NSW

After a half hour break we hit the road again to Yass where we stopped for lunch. It took about 1 hour 15 min to get here. There was fabulous caravan parking just off the Main Street behind the Club House. We parked here for lunch.

We ordered lunch at the Iron Jack Club House Motel. It was a Friday lunch time and there was plenty of setting we had to sign in using QR coding. Toilets were not well sign posted. The cost for lunch was enormous. $71 for 2 chicken parmis, kids meal nuggets/chips and 3 non alcoholic drinks. The food was good, but the cost left a sour taste in the mouth. What happened to the good old $15 schnity and chips?

Tumut, NSW

We arrived in Tumut around 3pm. We checked in to Riverglades Caravan park and set up the van. We were joined by my parents in the adjacent site. We chose a site away from the river for safety reasons with our 2 year old.

We spent all of Friday and Saturday exploring Tumut town.

Talbingo, NSW

On Sunday we decided to travel to look at the Tumut river further up stream. we had lunch at The Junction – Tumut and Goobagandra – Lions Club reserve. There was a beautiful bridge over the Tumut river at the reserve.

We then drove up to Talbingo which over looks the Blowering Dam. Madeline fell asleep on the way.

The bush fire devastation was very obvious at Talbingo. We grabbed a coffee before we heading back to Tumut.

Adelong Falls Mill Ruins

A quick drive from Tumut is a beautiful site of ruins. It has fabulous parking, although taking a caravan would be a tight squeeze. It boosts some of the most beautiful riverside walking tracks. We spent 30min walking the river edge here.

There is a donation box at the site for conservation of the site.

Heading home and the stats

We spent 3 beautiful nights exploring this area of NSW.

We drove a total of around 900km. The drive to Tumut we had a average fuel efficiency of around 18L/100km and heading home it was 17.7L/100km.

Accomodation was $111 for 3 nights, powered and water hookup. Access to full amenities.
