Small things, lakes and a teething toddler

Tuesday 26th January 2021

Madeline feel asleep staring at the stars from her bed. The windows were wide open overnight because we spent our first 30 degree day without power hook up or water hook up. It wasn’t horrible. It was humid but bearable.

We woke up several times overnight. Madeline was crying on and off from 3am. We couldn’t figure out why. She still refuses to let us put covers on her, even when she’s cold. Perhaps that is why she woke a lot.

Myall Lakes

We woke up at 7am from a broken night sleep. Madeline is refusing to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. She’s ok with snacks though.

We headed off early to Myall Lakes for a morning by the water. It was a 30min trip to the lake through winding roads and sclerophyll forest. The vegetation is so luscious and green.

We arrived at the National Park camp and picnic area at Neranie Sands. There were heaps of cars and people setting up gazebos for the day. We found a parking spot and got our picnic gear out.

It was a hot 35 degrees today. We swam and splashed around from 930-1230.

Neraine Sands

Madeline had a ball. It’s amazing when small things amuse our daughter. She spent a good 30min with a stick and leaf pushing it around. We did alot of swimming practice today too.

There were goannas (monitor lizards) galore at the picnic ground. They were amazing to watch.

We left around 1pm after a bite of homemade sandwiches for lunch.

Ants be-gone

Maddie fell asleep on our way to Forster to buy more ant-extermination gear. We are happy to report the ants have gone and none were seen today.

Teething toddler

We moved the van to a powered site this afternoon with a, more than usual, cranky and demanding toddler. She’s refusing to eat. While brushing our teeth I found a new second molar erupting. She’s getting paracetamol tonight.

Wrapped up the day

We had chicken schnitzels with garlic baked pumpkin and green beans for dinner. It’s actually really hard juggling the BBQ between baking some things and frying others. It’s just too hot to cook in the van at the moment.

Yet another perfect day in paradise.
