Coopernook, Forest walks and rough ride

Thursday 28th January 2021

Today we woke up to rain set in at Bulahdelah Bowls. We had a rough night with Maddie so slept in until 8am.

We had breakfast and packed the van and car up in the pouring rain. We left around 10am.

We traveled up north to Taree where we stopped to fill up one of our gas tanks which we’ve been using since we got the van. We stopped at the information centre to gather some local information.

Coopernook State Forest

We drove up to Coopernook where we went off road through the state forest to get to the camp ground. Hoping the non-off road van would bear the corrugations and ridges in the track.

We pulled into a beautiful clearing within the state forest and set up camp.

We explored the grounds. Cobb & Co travelled through this forest on its main track from Taree northwards. There are remnants of convict built roads within the forest.

The name, Coopernook, means “the elbow” in the local Aboriginal language, Biripi. This name refers to the bend in the Lansdowne River which looks like an elbow of an arm.

Coopernook Post Office opened on 1 November 1876.

Afternoon fun

We hung around camp this afternoon. We did some dancing, singing, playdoh, drawing and ball play.

We’ve had a great day today. Now to start some planning of things to do over the next 4 days.

Come on the journey with us tomorrow as we explore this beautiful area of the Manning Valley.
