Agnes water

Sunday 28th February 2021

We had a better night with one very long wake up overnight. Rosedale was quiet and peaceful.

Full moon picture

We got ourselves ready and hitched the van ready to drive to Agnes Water where we are spending the next 5 weeks.

We travelled to the local Foodworks to do our shopping before heading to the caravan park.

We were very surprised by how hilly Agnes water was. Very mountainous in a lot of parts.

We arrived at the van park and checked in. We set up very quickly before having lunch.

Our site for 5 weeks.
Walk to the beach (time lapse)

We went for a walk along Agnes Water beach after lunch.

Beach coming on low tide

We returned to the van via the local playground.

Tom Jeffery Park

Madeline didn’t have enough activity at the park. So we came back and scootered while dinner cooked.

Scootering around the park

We had baked dinner tonight. We are exhausted and looking forward to another event filled day tomorrow.

Agnes Water

Agnes water is 122km northwest of Bundaberg.

History

Prior to European settlement Agnes Water was home to the Meerooni tribe who form the southern part of the Gurang nation.

The town of Agnes Water was named by its first settlers Daniel Clowes in 1883. He named the area after a boat (coastal schooner) named Agnes, which was lost at sea in the area. The schooner left Bustard Head on 15 June 1873, en route from Mackay to Brisbane. Daniel Clowes remained there until his death in 1891.

There was saw milling in the locality in the 1890s. It has since become a popular tourist site and holiday destination.

Interesting facts

In 2018 Agnes Water became the first cryptocurrency town with Shops and hotels accepting cryptocurrency – Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and NEM.

Tomorrow

We plan to head onto Agnes Water beach in the morning and to visit 1770 in the afternoon.
