1770, Drone fishing and Scootering

Monday 1st March 2021

Madeline is teething and so we have been having a lot of overnight wake ups with a pretty unsettled toddler.

We woke up partially well slept at 715am. Today we planned to drive to 1770 to check out the beach.

We went across to Agnes Water in for centre first thing to have a look at some of the things on offer while we are here.

Seventeen Seventy (1770)

The town is built on the site of the second landing in Australia by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark Endeavour in May 1770 (and their first landing in what is now the state of Queensland).

We walked the foreshore while Madeline scootered up the foreshore pathway.

Geography

Although the town is referred to locally as 1770using numerals, the official name of the town is in words Seventeen Seventy.

The town is situated on a peninsula, with the Coral Sea and Bustard Bay on three sides.

The northern tip of the peninsula is mostly within the protected area of Joseph Banks (Round Hill Head) Conservation Park. Seventeen Seventy has the following headlands: Monument Point and Round Hill Head.

Monument Point is named because of the monument erected there to commemorate the landing by James Cook on 23 May 1770.

Afternoon

We spent the afternoon on Agnes water beach and Jason tried out a few more casts with drone fishing. He was baited twice. It was low tide, so the fish were not running as much.

We played ball and ran around a lot. We built sandcastles with moats and turtles in the sand.

Tomorrow

We plan on returning to 1770 foreshore and doing some swimming and fishing.
