Darwin Week 10

Sunday 12th September to Saturday 18th September 2021

Sunday

Madeline is wanting to dress up as a pirate so we went out and bought some dress up stuff.

Monday

Madeline had the urge to get on her bike and try learning to ride again.

In the pouring down rain, she finally got the hang of it.

Tropical “built up” is usually humid, but dry. This year is special. We are here just in time for a wet build up!

People in the Top End are being warned to brace for an early return to sweatbox conditions, with predictions an early onset of the wet season will bring the cooler dry season temperatures to a premature end.

Evas bureau of meteorology patient says it’s because “an uncommon phenomenon where the Indian Ocean Dipole is declared negative.”

Soaring temps

On July 25, the remote community of Wadeye reached 35.6 degrees Celsius – its hottest July day in more than 20 years.

In Victoria River Downs, a cattle station about 700 kilometres south of Darwin, a 37.7C day became the hottest maximum July temperature in 56 years.

The new look…sweaty

Wednesday

We moved caravan sites away from the wind tunnel of leaves.

Friday

Eva received her second Covid shot.

Bought $12 worth of mangos…5kgs we got.

Saturday

We visited Rapid Creek to do some casting net practice.

The casting net got caught on a rock and jason jumped into the crocodile infested waters to retrieve it.

Just a deep cut and multiple superficial lacerations

After washing about 1kg of sand out of the wound, Eva stitched him up.

The casting net made it out unscathed.
