Sunday 27th February 2022
We had a crappy night. Charlotte slept like an angel. Madeline had a massive night terror. She was screaming and crying for over 1 hour. It was heartbreaking. she remembered nothing in the morning.
Today we were booked on a 9am boat cruise of the 1st and 2nd gorge.

It was amazing to see the gorges and the boat commentary was outstanding.
We set off down the first gorge and learnt about the Aboriginal traditional Dreamtime story of how it formed. Then the geological scientific formation.

The gorge was carved out by Katherine River, a tributary of the Daly River. There are four watercourse in the park which are the Katherine River, Edith River, Fergusson River and King River which all begin on the Arnhem Land plateau and drain into the Daly River. The rugged terrain of the Arnhem Land plateau drain fast which makes the creeks and rivers rise and fall fast during times of rain.
The sandstone plateau it is carved out of is over 32,000 square kilometres in size.
Freshwater crocodiles inhabit the area. During the wet season saltwater crocodiles make their way up from the Daly. They are captured and released at the Crocodylus farm at the end of the wet.
We had to disembark and walk to the next boat in gorge 2 as the water was too low to continue.
The second Gorge was steeper and even more beautiful.

We arrived back at the car around 1110am. We had lunch and headed back to the pool for the afternoon.
Tomorrow
We start our travels down to Alice Springs. We are taking 5 nights to get there and averaging 200km a day.
