Elliston Wharf, Squid and Fishing

Saturday 2nd April 2022

We had a good nights rest with the diesel heart keeping us comfortable.

We had a slow start to the morning and had breakfast around 830am.

Jason rigged up the rods so that we could go fishing on the wharf. Babcia and Dziadzio kindly looked after the girls.

We left for fishing around 11am to Elliston Wharf.

We spent 3 hours fishing and caught; a squid, a wrasse and a leatherjacket.

The girls went to the playground and Madeline played on all the equipment.

We returned to the caravan and hung out with Babcia and Dziadzio in their van having tea and coffee.

Babcia came to our van to watch the Paw Patrol Movie with Madeline and babysat Charlotte as well.

We had dinner and prepared for bed. Madeline went for another sleep over with Babcia and Dziadzio.

Elliston Jetty

Located on the edge of Waterloo Bay, the current 427 metre Elliston Jetty was built in 1900. It is notable because of its steel pylons which were screwed into the seabed by a horse-drawn winch and it is the oldest screw pylon jetty in South Australia.

Like many jetties on the South Australian coastline, the jetty was to enable transportation of wool and grain.

Its sole use now is for fishing and photography.

Tomorrow

We move to Coffin Bay, oyster capital of SA.
