About 25mm of rain fell overnight making our unsealed road 4WD scenic drive questionable.
It’s was very cold overnight dropping to 12 degrees inside the caravan. We ran the diesel heater for several hours. Low and behold we woke up with a struggling battery as we were off grid. You may also remember our battery charger and cables disintegrated in the Darwin heat when we tried using them to recharge the car battery. Yep, we haven’t gotten around to replacing it yet.
After getting a road condition clearance we set out for our scenic loop. We were really glad we did.

The start of the Bunyaroo Valley Drive was lovely. There was undulating mountains all around.

When to sun came out we started to see the real beauty of the mountains that make up the Flinders Ranges.

We stopped at Yanyanna yards and hut. These were used by stockmen for mustering sheep on the Oraparinna Run. It is now set up for hikers as shelter and overnight stays.

We the drive to the Bunyaroo Valley lookout to take in some of the breathtaking views.

We stopped for lunch at the twin gums lookout.

After lunch we set off onto the next loop. The Brachina Gorge drive showed off the amazing geology of the ranges.
Geology is an area of great interest to Eva. We will not give all the details here but in a seperate blog on the geology and formation of the Flinders Ranges.

On our drive through the gorge we managed to spot some Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby.

We returned to the main Highway after a lovely 5 hours seeing the sights.

In the evening we went out to the Resort Restaurant for an early birthday dinner for Eva. It was also Chris and Wanda’s last night with us so we said our goodbyes.
Tomorrow
We leave for Melrose and to sort out our battery issue.
