Wednesday 23rd March 2022
We left Wudinna this morning after a cold 14 degree night. we awoke to an overcast and windy day.
We travelled 200km to Ceduna with one break to feed Charlotte and stretch our legs.
We arrived at Shelly Beach Caravan park and set up the van. It is a beautiful spot behind the sand dunes.

We had lunch and then went into Ceduna to look at the foreshore. It was cold and windy. We were all rugged up like we were at the snow and others were in tshirts and shorts.
We visited the jetty and the foreshore playground.

We also went to the tourist information centre and the op shop.
Overall today was lovely despite the cold. Hoping for more sunny and windless days to come.
Ceduna
The name Ceduna is a corruption of the local Aboriginal Wirangu word Chedoona and is said to mean a place to sit down and rest.
The first Europeans to observe the coastline near Ceduna were the Dutch sailors who accompanied Pieter Nuyts in his 1627 voyage across the Great Australian Bight. Nuyts reached the islands off the coast which are now known as Nuyts Archipelago before turning west to head for Batavia.
Matthew Flinders, on his voyage in the Investigator, anchored in Fowlers Bay on 28 January 1802. He went on to explore the coast and named Denial Bay, Smoky Bay and the islands of Nuyts Archipelago.
In June 1901, the town of Ceduna was proclaimed. For many years, locals called the township Murat Bay and it was not until the railways came and called the siding Ceduna in 1915 that locals adopted the name.
The Ceduna Jetty was built in 1902.
Tomorrow
We stay in Ceduna and look around at the town.
